FAQ: Help activating automated super stapling
What is Super Stapling?
Super stapling is a government initiative that was introduced to reduce cases of employees unnecessarily creating additional super funds when they start a new job. It is a mandatory requirement for all employers to search for an employee's stapled super fund before they can join the employer's default super fund.
Do I need to set up automated super stapling?
No, it is not a requirement, but it is worth the effort. Without automated super stapling you'll be required to perform a manual super stapling request for every employee who doesn't provide a valid super choice. By activating automated super stapling we will automate the whole process for you. As a bonus, it also makes it easier for employees to find their existing super fund, so you'll end up with fewer employees with invalid super choices.
Can I still perform super stapling manually?
Yes, you can manually perform a stapled super fund request via MyGov. Setting up automated super stapling does not restrict you from being able to perform manual super stapling requests.
Unable to access ATO Access Manager?
If you receive an error when attempting to log in to ATO Access Manager, you do not have the required authorisations. You can log in to the Resource Authorisation Manager (RAM) to view your privileges. To login to ATO Access Manager you will require the role of "Principal Authority" or "Authorisation Administrator". You will also need "Full" level of access to the "Australian Tax Office (ATO)".
Don't have a MyGovID?
If you don't have a MyGovID, you won't have access to ATO Access Manager (AM), or Resource Authorisation Manager (RAM). You should speak to the business owner, finance team or payroll team and determine who has a MyGovID, and access to these portals. Once you have determined who has access, provide these instructions for them to complete.
I received a notification that a super stapling request was made for my new employee.
This is to be expected. You will receive a notification via MyGov when a super stapling request is made for an employee. The employee will also receive a message via MyGov. When you log into your MyGov account for a business and view the stapled super fund page, you will see all the stapled super fund requests that have been made. Automated & manual super stapling requests will appear here.
What permission do I need to set up super stapling?
In order to authorise automated super stapling you'll need to be the "Principal Authority" or an "Authorised User" of the business entity within Resource Access Manager (RAM). This level of permission will enable you to access the ATO Access Manager and provide the necessary authorisation to enable automated super stapling.
I can't find SuperAPI by ABN or Name?
This happens if you're searching in the wrong box. You need to click "Appoint new business" before you will see the correct search box. See the screenshot provided below.
