Workforce Planning is a new way of interacting with intelliHR. This feature aims to help you:
- Plan the growth of your business;
- Maintain business structure despite vacancies;
- Better support new hiring initiatives and programs; and
- Set and enforce requirements for each position in your organisation.
Understanding Workforce Planning
If you are part of a large organization, it can be difficult to plan for the growth of your business, to keep track of what roles are filled versus what roles are vacant, and ensure that the jobs you create are actually valid.
Workforce Planning is a data model that can be used as the core or tertiary hierarchy (depending on how you manage reporting lines) of your organization structure in the intelliHR platform. Workforce Planning defines what the business would look like in an ideal world and control the underlying structure of jobs.
Example
In the image below Megan has 4 software engineer direct reports.
Note: the image above is a visualisation of the concept. It is not an actual system image.
- The first of the images above shows Megan with 4 Software Engineers reporting into her, the Engineering Manager.
- The second image shows what this would currently look like in the org chart if one of those software engineers (Jack Johnson) was to exit the business.
- Without using Workforce Planning it is not immediately obvious that Megan's team is understaffed and requires an additional software engineer.
- However, by using the workforce planning model the business can define how many software engineers should be reporting to the engineering manager and when one of these establishments/roles is not filled this will be immediately obvious. The third image displays the state when using establishments and we can see the vacant position for a software engineer.
Additional Context
Once Workforce Planning is in use, creating a new job in the system will ask you to select the Role that you wish this person to fill. (Click here to begin creating roles).
After Roles are created and assigned, there won't be any restriction as to what kind of job data can be inputted or changed in a person's job profile. Workforce Planning is mutually exclusive with Job data
When there is contradicting data between a Job and the Role requirements, this will only indicate as such in the Workforce Planning page via an alert icon.
