The leave block-out functionality allows for the configuration of black-out and grey-out periods that are used to restrict or block leave requests for a specific date range.
A black-out defines a period of time where no employee is able to request leave. A grey-out allows for the setting of a maximum number of employee able to be on leave on any day, preventing additional requests once this limit is reached.
Follow the below steps to configure leave block out periods in your system:
1. Refer to our article on leave block-out periods in TimeTarget for the steps on enabling and configuring this functionality. After enabling the System-Wide Settings follow these steps to create leave block-out periods.
2. In the Admin section select Leave Block-Out under System Configuration. In this screen, existing leave block-out periods can be seen and edited. To create a new block-out period click Add new record.
3. Enter a name, date range, block type and a scope defining where the block-out should apply. You can also select specific leave types which should not be subject to the leave block-out. If the block type is set to gray-out you will also need to provide the maximum number of employees able to be on leave on any day during the period.
Tip: If two leave block-out periods overlap the stricter of the two will be enforced meaning a black-out will always apply over a gray-out or between two gray-outs the one with the lowest limit of employees on leave will be applied.
This allows a default grey-out to be defined with an end date set to years in the future with stricter gray-outs or black-outs applied over the top where required.
Once configured employees will see highlighting on their availability map indicating when gray-out and black-outs apply or are maxed.
Manager access levels can be configured to allow requests to be made even during a black-out or maxed gray-out to let them make requests on behalf of employees who are blocked from doing so.
