Follow this guide to start, send, and manage direct and group chat messages in the Humanforce Work app.
Note: Chats in the Humanforce Work app do not connect with chats in the Humanforce (Legacy) app. If your organisation still uses the Legacy app, see View and manage chats in the Humanforce Legacy app.
Part 1: Start a chat
- Open the
Humanforce Work app
- To start a chat directly:
- Tap
Messages from the bottom menu.
- Go to the Chat tab.
- Tap the
New message icon in the bottom right.
- Tap
- To start a chat from your schedule:
- Tap
Schedule from the bottom menu.
- Select a rostered shift, shift offer, shift bid, leave, or availability.
- Tap the
Chat icon at the top right.
- Tap
- Use the
search bar to find the person or people you want to message.
- Tap their names to add them.
- You can add multiple people to create a group chat.
- Tap the > arrow icon to open the chat.
- Type your first message and tap
Send.
- When starting a chat from your schedule, a shift summary will be included above your text.
A new chat thread is created and appears in your chat list. You can reopen it any time from the Chat tab.
Part 2: Send messages and attachments
- Open a chat thread from the Chat tab.
- Type your message into the text field.
- (Optional) Add content using the icons:

Paperclip (iOS): attach images, videos, documents (e.g., PDFs), or capture new photos/videos.

Lightning icon: search and send GIFs via Giphy. Enter a keyword, select a GIF, and tap Send.

- Tap Send to deliver your message.
Your message, attachment, or GIF appears in the chat thread, visible to all participants.
Part 3: Manage and track chats
- From the Chat tab, long-press (Android) or swipe left and tap the ... 3 dots (iOS) on a chat to open management options.
- You can also use the
Search bar to quickly find a person or, in some cases, past message content.

- Choose from the available actions:
- View info - see group members and details.
- Leave group - exit a group chat (you will no longer see new messages).
- Delete conversation - remove the chat from your list. (Other participants will still see it. You can only delete group chats you started.)
- Cancel - close the options menu.
- Track unread messages:
- Unread counters appear beside chats and in the Chat tab header.
- Open a chat to clear its unread counter.
Your chosen action is applied immediately. For example, deleted chats disappear, leaving a group stops new messages, and unread counters clear once you’ve opened the chat.
Additional information
- Your ability to start new chats may depend on your organisation’s settings.
- Some users may not be available to chat with if your organisation hasn’t enabled permissions. Contact your administrator if needed.
- Deleting a chat removes it from your view, but messages may still be stored for compliance depending on your organisation’s policies.
