Intro
This article will provide steps on editing an existing Shift Type within Humanforce, as well as a definition of each available setting in the Shift Type's options.
Shift Types are different options for worked and non-worked shifts and each timesheet is allocated to a shift type. Each shift type could be defined with separate rules in the award interpretation to create the required amounts of each pay type (pay component/pay category/pay code) to be exported for payroll. The shift types can be customised to meet your requirements for award rules and leave options you require for payroll and reporting.
Required permissions
In order to adjust the details of a shift type in Humanforce, the access level assigned to your employee profile must have the below permissions enabled:
- View the Humanforce Administration section:
- TimeTarget Online > View Administration Section
- View and edit Shift Types:
- Maintenance Screens > Shift Types > Allow editing
Information on viewing or adjusting permissions for an Access Level is available in the below article:
Note: You can check your own access level by going to your employee profile, under the
Employment tab.
If you cannot see the Access Levels option in your Humanforce Admin screen, you will
need assistance from an administrator of Humanforce within your organisation to have your
permissions adjusted.
Adjusting a specific Shift Type
Shift types are adjusted within the Administration section of the Humanforce website. When logged in to Humanforce, select the Admin button.
In the Award Configuration section, select Shift Types.
From the list of Shift Types, you can select Edit against the item which requires adjustment.
A brief overview of each field is available in the section below - once you have completed the required adjustments, click the Save button to update the shift type's configuration.
Definition of configuration options
Setting |
Description |

This shift type will be used for normal worked time. |

Accrual Modes - Internal and External |
The Accrual Modes define whether the balance for a leave type is calculated internally within Humanforce, or whether it is imported from an external system via payroll integration or DataExchange imports. |
Min Access Level |
Limits use of the shift type in Availability and Timesheet screens based on the access level defined in setting. |
Group (for Shared Leave Balances) |
Defines the shift type as part of a Shift Type Group - all shift types within a group will share a collective balance. More information on Shift Type Groups is available in the following article: |
Award Rule Exclusions |
Options to exclude the shift type from being considered in various award conditions:
These should be on by default for leave types. |
Shift Type Hierarchy |
For leave types with accruals, this section defines a hierarchy or “overflow” structure of shift types that Humanforce will use when the balance of the primary shift type does not cover the amount being requested. |
STH References |
Shows any other shift types that contain this actioned shift type within their Shift Type Hierarchy list. |
Override value for leave requests (hrs) |
