Follow this guide to create and manage on-call shifts using the Roster Manager screen in Humanforce. On-call shifts are typically non-attended, allowing allowances to apply without requiring employees to clock in.
On-call pay configuration must be set up in your awards by a Humanforce consultant. If your workflow isn't behaving as expected, please log a support ticket to have your award setup checked.
There are multiple ways to implement on-call rostering in Humanforce WFM (e.g. using Shift Types instead of Non-attended status). If you're unsure which method your business is using, or would like to explore other options, please speak to your Humanforce services consultant or log a support ticket.
Part 1: Set up the on-call role
- Go to Admin > Org Structure > Roles.
- Create a new role or edit an existing one.
- Tick Always flag as 'Non Attended' in roster by default to auto-apply non-attended status when this role is used on a shift.
- Click
Save.
Refer to Create a new Role for detailed setup steps.
Users with limited access to admin functions may not be able to complete this task. Contact your system administrator.
Part 2: Add or edit an on-call shift in Roster Manager
- In Roster Manager, add a new shift or edit an existing one.
- Enter all required shift details, including:
- Location and Department
- Role (use the on-call role set up in Part 1)
- Shift type, Period and other optional fields
- If the role is configured to default as non-attended, the Non-attended toggle
will switch on automatically.
If not, you can manually enable the Non-attended toggle.
- Enter the Start time, End time, and any applicable breaks.
- To create a full-day on-call shift:
- Use two 12-hour shifts (e.g. 12am–12pm and 12pm–12am), or
- Use one 23h 59m shift (e.g. 12am–11:59pm)
Avoid rostering 12am–12am, as this will be interpreted as a 0-hour shift.
- To create a full-day on-call shift:
- Click Save.
The shift tile will display the Non-attended icon , confirming the employee is scheduled for an on-call shift.
Next steps
If the employee is not called in:
- No timesheet is required.
- The Non-attended status on the rostered shift allows the award engine to apply the relevant on-call allowance automatically.
If the employee is called in:
- The employee should clock in using the relevant on-call role.
- The manager can then approve the worked hours in the Timesheets screen.
- The system will apply appropriate allowances for both the on-call period and the worked time.
Additional information
You can toggle Non-attended manually on any shift in Roster Manager.
Roles with the Non-attended by default setting will auto-enable the toggle when selected.
Avoid flat 24-hour shifts (12:00am–12:00am) to ensure shift duration calculates correctly.
Non-attended shifts require award configuration to apply the correct on-call allowance and timesheet behaviour. Speak with your Humanforce consultant if this is not yet set up.
